Ombligon Nestor Lasso

Cherry, watermelon candy, raspberry, hibiscus

From 2024 US Barista Champion Frank La’s roastery Be Bright and award winning producer Nestor Lasso is a fruity and expressive Ombligon! We have found this coffee to be fruit forward with red fruit notes of cherry, raspberry, and hibiscus. We're happy to be featuring coffees like this as they represent stellar processing and unique varietals. When the cup is hot, we find watermelon aromatics with sweet red fruit notes. Once the coffee cools, a structured cherry and raspberry note starts to appear with the coffee finishing very round and sweet!

This might also be one of the first times you’ve ever tasted the Ombligon varietal. We have found Ombligons to be intense tasting, reminding us of loud pink bourbons but often skewing towards deeper red fruits and chocolate notes. This coffee is so expressive that it can be brewed in a variety of methods and we suggest you experiment!

Ombligon, a rare Ethiopian landrace variety whose cherry has a "belly," hence its Spanish name meaning belly button, is found locally. While some believe it arrived in Colombia from Central America, its exact origin and arrival date are undocumented.
